Linthicum Heights craft studio earns top recognition from The Maryland Small Business Examiner for its welcoming class program, community focused atmosphere, and the deeply personal story behind its founding
LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MD. Stitch Your Legacy, the warm and welcoming Linthicum Heights craft studio dedicated to sewing, crocheting, and the kind of creative community that feels increasingly rare, has been named the Best Sewing and Crochet Studio in Maryland for 2026 by The Maryland Small Business Examiner as part of its annual Best of Maryland Small Business Awards program.
The recognition celebrates a small business built on a beautiful and simple belief: that making something by hand can be both comforting and empowering. Located at 513 S Camp Meade Road in Linthicum Heights, Stitch Your Legacy is a true neighborhood studio, the kind of shop visitors often say “you don’t see much anymore,” where the focus is less about perfection and more about people.
A Studio Built from a Trauma Nurse’s Healing Practice
What sets Stitch Your Legacy apart is the deeply personal story behind its founding. Owner Kelly is a former trauma nurse who turned to sewing, crocheting, and handcrafting as a way to slow down, find peace, and work through life’s challenges. What helped her get through some of the hardest parts of her career and her personal life eventually became the foundation of an entire community space, where others could find the same comfort and connection she found in working with her hands.
Kelly built Stitch Your Legacy with the hope of creating something more than just a craft studio. She wanted a place where everyone, regardless of age or experience, could feel at home, pick up a new skill, or simply enjoy the company of others while creating something meaningful. That mission shapes every class, every workshop, and every quiet afternoon at the studio. Kelly brings patience, joy, and a genuine love for community into everything she does, and she is always ready to help someone get started.
A Welcoming Team and a Thoughtful Class Program
Alongside Kelly, manager Hannah brings her own rich creative background to the studio. Hannah grew up sewing alongside her Oma, fell in love with fashion early, and even did hair at New York Fashion Week in 2012 and 2013 for multiple runway shows. After more than a decade blending creativity, storytelling, and people across cosmetology and marketing, Hannah came to Stitch Your Legacy in January 2025 as a student to reignite her love for sewing. What began as a personal creative reset grew into something more, especially as she began making alongside her own children. Today she helps run the studio with the same warmth and welcoming spirit that defines the entire space.
The studio offers classes for sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and a variety of crafting skills, designed for all ages and experience levels. Stitch Your Legacy also hosts events throughout the year and runs Creative Camp 2026, a summer program designed for young makers to build skills, confidence, and friendships while creating things they can be proud of.
A Carefully Curated Retail Selection
While classes and community are at the heart of the business, Stitch Your Legacy also stocks a carefully curated retail selection of high quality craft supplies. The studio carries Cascade Yarns, Feederbrook Farm Yarn (hand dyed and made in Baltimore County with their own sheep), seasonal fabric and Batiks from Tula Pink, vibrant Free Spirit fabrics including Shot Cotton, Schmetz household sewing machine needles, and a variety of Clover products for crochet and quilting.
For local makers in Anne Arundel County and the broader Baltimore region, Stitch Your Legacy offers a uniquely thoughtful retail experience, the kind where customers can ask questions, see materials in person, and walk out with not just supplies but the encouragement to actually use them.
Recognition Earned Through Community and Care
“Stitch Your Legacy represents exactly what this award was created to recognize,” said a spokesperson for The Maryland Small Business Examiner. “A small, deeply personal craft studio built by a former trauma nurse who found peace in working with her hands and decided to share that peace with her entire community. Kelly and Hannah have created the kind of space that brings people together across generations, and Linthicum Heights is fortunate to have them. They have earned every bit of this recognition.”
Stitch Your Legacy was selected for the 2026 Best of Maryland Small Business Award in recognition of exceptional sewing and crocheting instruction, outstanding community building, and commitment to Maryland’s craft and maker community.
