LUSBY, Md. — Calvert County’s own Baylee Wroten is ready to step into the spotlight this weekend — and hopefully come home with a new title.

Wroten won the title of Miss Calvert and finished as the second runner-up for Miss Maryland at last year’s competition at the National American Miss pageant in the Junior Pre-Teen division. Now older and wiser, Wroten is heading to the state competition in Reston, Virginia, from July 9-12. If she qualifies, Wroten will also have the opportunity to compete in the national pageant later this year.

Wroten’s mother, Elizabeth, highlighted Baylee’s hard work over the last year on both her pageant performance and getting sponsors to allow her to compete. She also won the Miss Spirit Award and was a top semifinalist in the talent competition in 2025. This year, Wroten’s goal is to come home with the coveted Maryland crown.

In addition to the competition, Baylee can earn People’s Choice Award votes from those within the state and is especially relying on her fans in her own Calvert County to help her stand out. The voting closes on Thursday.

The National American Miss pageant is designed to help girls and women grow their confidence and celebrate individuality. Contestants participate in a judges’ interview, a talent competition and an age-appropriate evening gown segment.

Elizabeth Wroten said Baylee, and the whole family, has been prepping all year for the pageant and is excited to support her in her goals.

“She’s worked so hard to be Miss Calvert. Let’s get her Miss Maryland!” Elizabeth Wroten wrote in an email to The BayNet.
