After nine years, The Brass Tap Baltimore is closing permanently.
Owners posted on social media that Aug. 31 will be the last day of business for the craft beer bar and dining spot at 1205 W. Mount Royal Ave., part of The Fitzgerald apartment building.
“After 9 years of pouring drinks, hosting jazz brunches and cheering on the O’s with you, The Brass Tap Baltimore is closing our doors on August 31st,” their message said.
“This decision didn’t come easily. We fought hard to keep this place going, but it’s the right call for us now.”
“We wanted you to hear it from us directly. What we do have left is a final week together: One more Jazz Brunch, one more Happy Hour on the patio, one more chance to raise a glass in this room with the people who made it feel like home.
“Come see us. There’s still a seat waiting.”
The Brass Tap is one of the few restaurants within easy walking distance of the Maryland Institute College of Art campus, where fall classes started on Monday. It has been a convenient place for groups such as the local American Institute of Architects chapter to hold receptions after lectures at MICA’s Brown Center one block away. It’s also close to the University of Baltimore campus.
According to area residents, the restaurateurs were unable to negotiate a lease extension with the owner of the Fitzgerald building, an affiliate of MCB Real Estate. Other departures from the Fitzgerald include a Barnes & Noble College Booksellers Superstore and Noona’s restaurant. Noona’s replaced Two Boots Pizza and has been replaced by Angeli’s Pizzeria Bar.
Bolton Hill residents and others are planning to gather at The Brass Tap for a send-off on Thursday, Aug. 27.
