On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 2:45 p.m., an officer tried to pull someone over in connection with an open investigation. The suspect sped away at a high rate of speed after initially pulling over, and officers were told by PGPD Supervisors not to pursue. Less than a half mile later, the suspect crossed a double yellow line, went into oncoming traffic and struck an oncoming vehicle, and subsequently striking a third vehicle and utility pole. The driver of the vehicle the suspect struck head-on was killed. The suspect suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The third driver denied having injuries. Charges are pending, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. The suspect will be identified once charges are filed. This is the second serious crash stemming from suspects fleeing police in the area. Two days ago, a suspect fled Charles County Deputies and struck an innocent woman head-on at the PG County / Charles County line, resulting in two suspects suffering serious injuries, and three innocent civilians suffering injuries.
