On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the area of Rosewick Road near the train tracks in La Plata, for a motor vehicle collision involving an unoccupied school bus. 911 callers reported a single vehicle struck a school bus which reportedly had no students on board. Police were first to arrive on scene to report a “significant” crash with serious injuries. Firefighters and emergency medical services arrived and began evaluating 4 patients with injuries. A short time later, aviation was requested for a 7-year-old female. Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 landed nearby and transported the child to the Children’s National Hospital. A 32-year-old male was transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center with serious injuries. Two additional patients, a 61-year-old female and a 65-year-old female were both transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. Police are investigating the collision.
