MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A heavily burned Hyundai Elantra was found abandoned along Friendship School Road in Mechanicsville early Friday morning, prompting an investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The vehicle fire was reported around 6:15 a.m. June 5, 2026, in the 25000 block of Friendship School Road, just past Jones Road.

Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department Engine 10 responded with six personnel. When crews arrived, they found the car had already been extensively damaged by fire and was still smoking, though no active flames were visible.

No driver or occupants were found at the scene.

Investigators said the Hyundai Elantra had no registration tag, and no vehicle identification number could be located.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal assumed the investigation.
