SOLOMONS, Md.  – July brings a full month of family-friendly programs, summer camps, live entertainment, and Chesapeake Bay adventures to the Calvert Marine Museum.

Highlights include the annual Sharkfest! celebration on July 11, a special 4th of July Fireworks Cruise aboard the Wm. B. Tennison, Family Fun Friday programs throughout the month, and a live performance by country music artist Warren Zeiders on July 24.

From hands-on learning experiences and museum programs to cruises and seasonal attractions, visitors of all ages will find something to enjoy this summer. For the full calendar of July events, visit calvertmarinemuseum.com.

Now Open for the Season – The Calvert Marine Museum’s seasonal sites and experiences are open.

Select Dates in July – Lore Oyster House
Explore the newly refurbished 1934 seafood packing house, located 0.6 miles south of the main campus on Solomons Island Road. Exhibits highlight oyster harvesting and processing in Southern Maryland. Free admission. See website for dates and hours.

Wednesdays through Sundays in July – Wm. B. Tennison Public Cruise | 2 p.m.
Enjoy a one-hour cruise aboard the historic Wm. B. Tennison. Capacity is 40 passengers; if full, a 3:10 p.m. cruise will run with a minimum of eight passengers. An additional 3:10 p.m. cruise will run on weekends and on the 4th of July holiday. $9 adults; $5 children (ages 0–12).

Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays in July – Cove Point Lighthouse | 1–4 p.m.
Visit the grounds and Visitors Center to learn about the Chesapeake Bay’s oldest continuously operating lighthouse and enjoy views of the Calvert Cliffs. Free admission. No beach access.

Thursday, July 2 – Sea Squirts | 10:15 and 11:15 a.m.

This month’s theme is Messy Day. Children 18 months to 3 years, with an adult, are invited to discover the museum together through music, stories, and special activities. Join us for story time and a craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 25–40 minutes. Included with museum admission. Friday, July 3 – First Fossil Friday! | 1–4:30 p.m. 

Fossil hunters, bring your fossil finds from Calvert Cliffs or other local areas to be identified! This service is provided for free; however, admission fees apply for access to CMM exhibits.

Sundays, July 5, 12, 19 & 26 – Beyond the Displays: Artifact Stories | 1:30–2:30 p.m.

Join museum educator Lori to explore the museum’s artifacts, uncovering their origins and significance. Hear how World War II shaped Solomons and discover hidden details in the museum murals. Learn something new every tour. Included with museum admission.

Saturday, July 11 – Sharkfest! | 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

Celebrate all things shark at CMM! This year, live sharks will be featured indoors in the Harms Gallery, offering visitors a unique opportunity to view these amazing animals up close in a comfortable, climate-controlled setting. Be sure to snap a photo and learn more about shark biology, conservation, and the important role sharks play in our ecosystem. To support the health and well-being of the animals, shark touching will not be offered.

Enjoy a full day of jaw-some fun with shark-themed crafts, interactive education stations, and hands-on activities. Discover amazing “sharktoids” and examine evidence of prehistoric sharks. Food and drinks will be available for purchase on site. Please note: Strollers and carts are not permitted inside the museum during SHARKFEST. Capacity is limited—advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended for non-members.

Saturday, July 11 – Dee of St. Mary’s Dockside Tours | Noon–4 p.m.
Step aboard the museum’s skipjack for an up-close tour with crew members on her 56-foot deck. Learn how watermen dredge for oysters, hoist the sails, and navigate the waterways of the Chesapeake. Included with museum admission.

Sunday, July 12 – Creature Feature | 10:15–11:15 a.m.

Each month, discover a mystery animal from our local estuaries — not normally on display. Take-home coloring pages available. Included with museum admission.

Thursdays, July 16 & 23 – Little Minnows | 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.  

This month’s theme is Messy Day. For preschoolers ages 3–5, with an adult. This program focuses on one of the museum’s three themes. Join us for story time and craft, available while supplies last. Thursday, July 16 – Food Truck: Kona Ice | 11:30 a.m.–2 p.m.   

Enjoy a cool treat from Kona Ice! The food truck will be located on the grassy area by the Wood Carving and Model Boat Showroom. See you at the food truck!!

Friday, July 17 – Family Fun Friday: Maritime Magic | 9–11a.m.   

Join us as we explore our newly restored historic skipjack, the Dee of St. Mary’s. Learn about the life of traditional Chesapeake Bay Watermen and even learn how to hoist a sail! Enjoy a nautical-themed craft and activity. $15/per person for non-members, $12/per person for members; the fee includes museum admission. Saturday, July 18 – Toy Boat Building | 1–4 p.m.

Make a toy boat from wood! Space and materials are limited. Visitors will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. For ages 5 and older. Museum admission applies; in addition, a donation of $2 per boat is requested.

Monday, July 20 – CMM Members Save 20% in the Museum Store | 10:15 a.m.–4:45 p.m.

Friday, July 24 – Family Fun Friday: Blooms and Bugs! | 9-11 a.m.

Ever wonder which insects are good for your garden and which insects are not? Would you like to learn simple ways to help the environment that you and your family can practice right in your own backyard? If so, this program is for you! Discover the important roles insects and native plants play in the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem and create a nature-inspired craft! Fun is sure to be had with our bug-themed games and activities. $15/per person for non-members, $12/per person for members; the fee includes museum admission. Friday, July 24 – Warren Zeiders LIVE with special guest Wesko | 7 p.m.

Country artist WARREN ZEIDERS has quickly become one of the genre’s fastest-rising stars. The Pennsylvania native has earned more than 3.6 billion global streams and scored a No. 1 hit with the double-platinum single “Pretty Little Poison.” Known for his gritty vocals and powerful live performances, Zeiders continues to build momentum with his album Relapse, Lies & Betrayal and his upcoming Warren Zeiders World Tour 2026. Friday, July 31 – Family Fun Friday: Maryland Mammals | 9-11 a.m.

Learn about the fascinating mammals of our state and when you might see them out and about in the wild! From playful river otters to beavers and native bats, enjoy a themed craft and fun learning activities.

Explore how the prehistoric past, natural environments, and maritime heritage come to life and tell a unique story of the Chesapeake Bay. The Calvert Marine Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors, military, and veterans with valid ID, AAA and AARP members, $6 for children ages 5 – 12, children under 5 and museum members are admitted free.
