WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf woman was charged with first-degree assault after an argument at a Chick-fil-A parking lot allegedly escalated into a vehicle-related assault.

Jaia Sorrell Hardaway, 20, of Waldorf, was charged with first-degree assault following the June 5, 2026, incident.

A Charles County police officer responded around 1:45 p.m. to the Chick-fil-A at 3710 Crain Highway for a reported destruction of property.

Charging documents state the officer met with an injured man who reported that the incident began while he and Hardaway were driving south on Smallwood Drive toward the restaurant. The man told police the two were involved in a near-crash before both vehicles arrived at the Chick-fil-A.

The two allegedly exchanged words in the parking lot before both went inside the restaurant.

Inside the restaurant, the man told police he ordered food and tried to keep his distance from Hardaway. After receiving their food, both left the restaurant and continued arguing near Hardaway’s vehicle, according to charging documents.

The man told police Hardaway got into her vehicle, put it in reverse and began backing out of the parking space. Charging documents state she then placed the vehicle in drive and attempted to leave.

While driving forward, Hardaway allegedly struck the man with her vehicle, causing him to jump onto the hood. While on the hood, the man struck the windshield with his fist, damaging it, according to court documents.

The man was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and released.

Hardaway was taken into custody and transported to the Charles County Detention Center for processing.

Court records show Hardaway was released on recognizance June 5.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 1 in Charles County District Court.
