SILVER SPRING, Md. — A Silver Spring man has been arrested on rape and related charges after police reported an adult woman was sexually assaulted at a downtown Silver Spring training academy, and detectives believe there may be additional victims.

Melesse Semegne, 58, was charged with second-degree rape, attempted second-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offense and two counts of second-degree assault.

Montgomery County Police reported that officers responded to a residence in Silver Spring around 8:12 p.m. on May 6, 2026, after an adult woman reported she had been sexually assaulted the previous day.

The woman told officers she had gone to Fenote Training Academy, located at 8115 Fenton Street, where she had enrolled in a course. When she arrived, Semegne was the only person inside the business, according to police.

Police reported that Semegne sexually assaulted the woman before she left the location and contacted authorities.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police Special Victims Investigations Division executed a search warrant at the Fenton Street address on May 14 and recovered items of evidentiary value.

An arrest warrant was issued June 9. Semegne turned himself in June 14 and was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.

Court records show Semegne was ordered held without bond June 14. A bail review hearing was held June 15 in Montgomery District Court in Rockville, where he remained held without bond.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone who may have had contact with Semegne to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.

Anyone with information who wants to remain anonymous may contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 1-866-411-8477 or submit a tip through the Crime Solvers website.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 10 in Montgomery District Court in Rockville.
